You Don’t Matter – And Why That Realization Can Change Your Life
Recently, I participated in an online workshop where I heard three simple but powerful words: "You don’t matter."
While hearing this hit me hard, it also brought a huge sense of relief. In that moment, I felt like I’d uncovered a truth that had been buried deep within me for years. Recognizing it felt like a release, a shift that I knew would change my life forever.
Understanding the Weight of "You Don’t Matter"
What I didn’t realize before that moment was how strongly I’d been living by this belief – the idea that, somehow, I don’t matter. I’d carried it around unknowingly, allowing it to influence so many areas of my life. Like a shadow, it shaped my actions, relationships, and self-worth, all without my awareness. When I finally saw it for what it was, it was both shocking and enlightening.
This realization isn't unique to me; many people, especially women who identify as "good girls" or "people pleasers," live under the weight of this same belief. It’s a mindset that teaches us to put others’ needs above our own, to avoid expressing boundaries, and to seek validation externally. It’s a mindset that tells us to numb out and ignore our inner voice.
Recognizing the Power of "I Do Matter"
As I sat with these thoughts, another one surfaced: “Of course, I matter!” This acknowledgment brought a profound transformation. Knowing that I truly matter shifted the energy within me. It no longer made sense to act in ways that diminished my worth or ignored my own needs.
As a result, I noticed a change in my energy, especially my masculine energy, which began to align in a way that served me deeply. I felt more grounded, more capable of standing firm in my boundaries, and more confident in expressing my needs. When you know you matter, everyone else around you can feel it too – and they begin to treat you accordingly.
Embracing the Change: Letting Go of Old Patterns
This journey has taught me the importance of embracing our inherent worth and letting go of the outdated beliefs that no longer serve us. By doing so, we not only honor ourselves but allow others to see and respect the value we bring to the world.
