What has been my biggest takeaway from this year? 

I've spent the last week pretty much slammed to the sofa. At first, I thought I had COVID, but then found out that I was actually journeying through a really bad flu. There have been moments where I was so far gone I couldn't talk and certainly couldn't think. Fever, chills, headache, runny nose, sore throat... 

My body was holding score. What about? My fears, my stories about the casita holding fast. I was completely run down before Christmas, and I knew that it was only a matter of time before my way of being would catch up. The body holds trauma in ways we often overlook, manifesting in physical ailments when we are most vulnerable.

Body Holds Trauma: Mind and Body Awareness

Taking on the casita project on my own has been no easy feat. NOTHING has gone according to plan. And why should it? Yet, I had a hidden expectation that it would. We cannot control what happens on the journey, but we can minimize the risk by tuning into what is aligned and what is not. This flu forced me to stop and listen to my body, highlighting the importance of mind and body awareness. My body was telling me that I had been stressing too much, and the consequences were inevitable. 

Understanding Aligned Decisions in the Body

Here has been my greatest takeaway from 2022: to understand and know what an aligned decision feels like in my body and what doesn't. I thought I understood this before, yet I have come to realize that I really didn't. 

An aligned decision feels 

  • clean 

  • expansive 

  • clear

  • loving 

It doesn’t mean it won’t challenge you, however, or make any sense at the time. This year has taught me that the body holds trauma, and it's essential to pay attention to these physical and emotional signals to make decisions that are truly aligned with my well-being.

Reflecting on the Year: Lessons Learned

So, what's been your biggest learning from 2022? 

Understanding that aligned decisions come from a place of clarity and love, even if they are challenging, has been my most significant insight. This year has been about tuning into my body, recognizing its signals, and embracing the connection between mind and body for a healthier, more balanced life.
