My Current Contemplation on Resentment: Introduction to Feeling of Resentment

Couple sitting contemplatively, reflecting on their feelings of resentment

Resentment can often be seen as an emotion to get rid of, but for me, it’s become one to contemplate. Like all feelings, I see them as telling and helpful if we understand the message behind them.

Understanding Resentment as a Sign

By understanding resentment, we can uncover deeper truths about ourselves. For example, for me, resentment is now a sign that I am not living into my Truth and that I have either forgotten or have been too scared to express it and honor it.

Exploring the Feeling of Resentment

BUT if you are able to sit with your resentment and ask it:

  • What message does it have for you?

  • What does it want to show you?

Then it will give you the answer. Usually, it will say:

  • “There is a desire you need to discover, express, and honor.”

  • “There is a hurt you need to express.”

  • “There is a boundary you need to discover, express, and honor.”

  •  “There is an expectation you have created that hasn’t been met.”

Resentment Explained: It's About Us

Even though our resentment looks like it’s about the other person, it’s never about them. It’s about us and our wounded child that sits in judgment of the emotional experience. Understanding resentment in this way helps us see that it reflects our own unmet needs and desires.

Healing Through Resentment and Understanding Resentment

As adults and sovereign beings, we have the capacity to hold that inner child and realize that we can express and honor our Truth and Desires. By embracing the feeling of resentment, we can transform it into a powerful tool for personal growth and self-awareness.

Conclusion

In conclusion, contemplating resentment rather than dismissing it allows us to uncover valuable insights about our inner world. By understanding resentment, we can navigate our emotions more effectively and live a more authentic and fulfilled life.
